Cape Locally Grown is an enhanced online farmer’s market featuring local produce and farm goods, value added products, prepared foods, and artisan crafts. It’s currently managed by Lance and Sharla Green.
Cape Locally Grown is an enhanced online farmer’s market that (1) provides direct access to local, high quality goods from farmers, artists, craftspeople and food producers; (2) works to provide transparency to the methods and practices of local producers and their foods (3) looks to increase the quality of foods through minimizing time between farm and table, and encouraging sustainable methods, and (4) seeks to support local growers with local financial support through the purchasing of local goods.

All vendors participating in Cape Locally Grown must:
➢ Agree to follow all rules and regulations as outlined below and abide by the mission of the market.
➢ Comply with applicable local/state/federal laws and licensing/permitting requirements.
➢ Submit a complete and accurate online producer registration form
➢ Ensure all products sold are grown/produced within 100 miles of the market address.
General Information, Rules and Regulations
A. Producer Categories:
i. Farm Products: Fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, flowers, plants, eggs, meats, uncracked nuts, honey, maple syrup, cheese and other agricultural products.
ii. Value added Products: Jams, jellies, pickles, roasted coffee, cracked nuts, baked goods, and other edible goods (not grown by vendor) individually labeled and made for off site consumption.
iii. Prepared Foods: Foods or beverages made for consumption at the market.
iv. Artisan Crafts: Art, crafts, jewelry, homemade soaps, lotions, etc.
v. Other: Services and other vendors related to the mission of the market.
B. Types of Producers
i. Producer 1
Producer produces own farm products, value-added products, prepared foods, artisan crafts, or other services. Producer is responsible for managing their own inventory online and delivering their goods in a timely manner to Cape Locally Grown.
ii. Producer 2
Producer produces own farm products, value-added products, prepared foods, artisan crafts, or other services. Producer sells product wholesale to Cape Locally Grown as needed, and Cape Locally Grown is responsible for managing inventory and assembling goods.
iii. Local Food Hub
Local Food Hub aggregates local farm products, providing integral services such as processing, storage and marketing for small farms. The local food hub is responsible for managing their own inventory online and delivering their goods in a timely manner to Cape Locally Grown.
C. Application Process.
The producer application must be filled out online and is subject to approval by the Market Managers.
D. Costs to Producers
1. Producer 1 will be paid 85% of all products sold through Cape Locally Grown, meaning a 15% fee will be required for selling on the Cape Locally Grown platform
2. Producer 2 will be paid 60% to 75% for products to be sold on Cape Locally Grown, meaning a 25% to 40% margin will be afforded Cape Locally Grown for all warehoused and managed products.
3. Local Food hubs will be paid 90% of all products sold through Cape Locally Grown
E. General Market Info & Rules
a) All products sold at the market must be grown/produced within 100 miles of the market (from market address to vendor location/production as determined by Google Maps).
b) Produce sold by the producer (Producer 1) or sold to Cape Locally Grown (Producer 2) must be grown by the producer, unless a local food hub
c) Produce sold by a local food hub, must be produced according to the 100 mile rule.
1. If there is a concern or complaint, the local food hub must be able to confirm the origination of the produce and prove the origin. The local food hub must be able to
provide the contributing farm name, address and phone number for where the produce was grown and receipts if requested. The Market Manager reserves the right to request contributing farm names from the local food hub and to allow/disallow said produce. If any complaints arise concerning products from the local food hub, the local food hub will undergo a Market review for said products.
2. The local food hub may not offer products for sale in sub-categories well-represented by Producer 1-type producers. For example, if there is not enough lamb at the Market, according to the discretion of the Market Manager, the local food hub will be allowed to sell lamb through the site. Primarily, the local food hub’s purpose is to fill in gaps that are not well-represented in our area or in the market itself. In order to create enough of an offering to attract online customers, local food hubs are a much needed entity and will be welcomed within Cape Locally Grown.
d) Artisan crafts need not be solely comprised of items produced within 100 miles (i.e. paints, beads, etc.) their raw or purchased state (see Rules for Artisan Crafts below for more specifics and examples).
e) All fruits and vegetables should be fresh and of high quality.
f) Products must be sold at fair market prices. Absolutely no “dumping” (i.e. deep discounting) is allowed.
ii. Producer store must be maintained properly
a) Producers will display a page indicating the: farm name, logo, picture of people that are responsible for the farm’s products, description of the principal business of the farm, and clear photos and descriptions for each product posted.
b) Any other displayed information must be directly related to the producer’s farm/business. Producers may not fund raise for other organizations no matter how worthy a cause.
c) Product photos must be attractively displayed online
d) Prices must be clearly and legibly posted for all items.
iii. Producer must have conduct worthy of community
a) Producers must:
1. Maintain their online products, photos, and descriptions with professionalism
2. Be courteous to customers, other vendors, and market staff/volunteers.
b) Producers may not
1. Make disparaging comments about other individuals or the market.
c) Producers are expected to attend all market days.
d) Producers not offering products for sale (vacation mode), should notify the Market Manager as far in advance as possible with a minimum of 24 hours’ notice before market opens on Thursday via email
viii. Producer must be in compliance with the law
Producers must comply with all local, state, and federal laws. Sales tax is required and must be paid to the Missouri Department of Revenue unless exempt under RSMo. 144.527.1 for selling eligible “farm products” and grossing less than $25,000 per year.
ix. Producers assume full responsibility for their products
Producers agree to assume full responsibility and to hold Cape Locally Grown harmless from any product claims brought against the producer in regards to his products and/or services.
F. Vendor Specific Info, Rules & Regulations (see Vendor Type below)
i. Farm Product Vendors

a) All scales used for weighing products sold by weight must be approved and meet state regulations by Mo. Department of Agriculture – Weights & Measures – 573-751-4613 (Fee $15.00)
b) Selling eggs requires Missouri’s Limited Retailer’s Egg License from Mo. Department of Agriculture – 5737515639 (Fee $5.00)
c) Meat or poultry must be processed in a USDA inspected facility (Poultry operations less than 1,000 birds are exempt). More info from Missouri Meat Inspection Program (573-522-1242).
d) Selling live, perennial plants (not vegetable plants or annuals) requires registration as a Nursery Grower or Dealer. More info from Mo. Department of Agriculture (573-751-5505)
ii. Value added Products Vendors
a) All products need to have proper descriptions which include:
1.. Common name of the food product
2. List of ingredients (if there are more than two) given in descending order of predominance by weight
3. Quantity specifications given in weight, volume, or pieces
4. A statement saying “This product was prepared in a kitchen that is not subject to inspection by the Department of Health and Senior Services.” (unless it was)
b) If the foods are not prewrapped or packaged, there must be a placard clearly visible at the sale or service location that states that the product is prepared in a kitchen that is not subject to inspection by the Department of Health and Senior Services.
c) Jams, jellies & honey producers who sell less than $30,000/yr. are allowed to produce their products in a home kitchen (RSMo. 261.241) and are exempt from registering as a Food Canning Establishment. They must follow above labeling requirements.
iii. Prepared Foods Vendors
a) To sell prepared foods/beverages you need a Farmer’s Market permit ($60) or a Food and
Beverage Permit from the Cape Girardeau County Health Dept. (573-335-7846).
b) You must follow all applicable Health Codes and have a scanned copy of your permit ready.
iv. Artisan Crafts Vendors
a) Artisan Craft Vendors are required to submit photographs of their products with their
application to be juried by Cape Locally Grown Market Managers.
1. Returning Vendors are exempt from this rule provided their products are the same as the
previous year. New items are not exempt and do require photos.
2. Digital photographs are preferred to be submitted by email to
email@example.com They may also be printed and attached to the
application but this may slow application decision process.
b) Applications without photographs are not complete and won’t be considered until completed.
c) Artisan Crafts guidelines:
1. Products/items must be crafted and significantly altered from their raw or original state to
2. Items that are merely painted (not paintings) or repurposed without significant
alterations are not allowed to be sold at the market.
3. Photographs, descriptions of materials and the creation process are very helpful in
determining the eligibility of items.
H. Rule Compliance and Grievance Procedure
i. Any violation of rules and regulations may result in immediate termination from the market. Rules regarding safety and integrity of vendor products may result in immediate dismissal from the market.
ii. The Market Manager reserves the right to make decisions regarding vendors’ participation in and use of the online marketplace. The Market Managers reserves the right to terminate any producer for any reason at their sole discretion and without recourse.
